The bag is water resistant and waterproof on the front and both sides but the rear that would be on your back is made of material that is not or may appear water resistant only. The bag is larger in size than I expected, it is certainly larger than a normal sized rucksack. There is a compartment for you tablet or laptop on the outside rear of the bag or you can like I have done and store it in the main compartment but don't worry that compartment for your tablet or laptop that is situted there is waterproof from the inside. There is a clip locked pocket on the outside front suitable for mobile phone, mouse, keys and or wallet. There is a zipped pocket above that clipped pocket, this is suitable just for the likes of pens or keys as whilst it stretches across the length of the bag it is only 2-3inches in depth. There is another zipped side pocket along one side of bag to store you water bottle or flask inside the bag ib the main compartment or there are two water bottle holders one each side of the bag. The bag has two strapes for handles as normal with any rucksack. At the top there is a zipper to enter the main compartment, it has two zips that stretch around both sides and front with a lip covering the zip - I personally struggle to open this zipped compartment as I find the lip hinders me in doing so. Once inside the main compartment there is several sections and mini compartments to store items. I've store my laptop along with all its accessories here, and if you've used the outter compartment for your water bottle you can feel it as it is separated from the main compartment itself.
